The 90s Top 50 Music Videos
Posted 08/26/10
Pitchfork Media has put together a list of what they think is the best 50 music videos from the 1990s. I'm not sure about some of videos on their list but most of them certainly take me back to happy times. Below are a few of my favorites. Enjoy! If you'd like to see the entire list, click on the link below all the videos. Daft Punk - Around the World Foo Fighters - Everlong Weezer - Buddy Holly

Tallest Man on Earth
Posted 08/26/10
Here is a nice live show of Tallest Man on Earth performing I Won't Be Found. This guy is so gifted, it hurts. If you don't already own his Shallow Grave album, you are DUMB. Get to iTunes music store or your local record shop now.

Ramona Falls - I Say Fever
Posted 07/28/10
"I Say Fever" - the first video from the Ramona Falls debut album Intuit. Directed by the ridiculously talented Stefan Nadelman, winner of a 2003 Sundance prize for his 22 minute film 'Terminal Bar', a prolific animator in the commericial field and the mastermind behind the Menomena Evil Bee video. Ramona Falls is Brent Knopf's first solo venture, but he has an extensive musical resume as part of trio Menomena (an indie rock band from Portland, OR, that's snagged plaudits from such tastemakers as Pitchfork Media and the New York Times.)

Apple iTunes in the Cloud?
Posted 07/02/10
Could iTunes be getting cloud capability that everyone has been asking about for years now? Man, wouldn't that be sweet. I could, in theory, stream all of my music from anywhere. I could even put my Lala-esque playlists back up on this site in the features section. Dope! Make it so Apple! Additionally, at least in rumor-ville, there is talk of wireless syncing. 'Bout Time!

Taken By Storm
Posted 06/22/10
A new documentary is in the works about the most influential album artist in history. Trust me, probably 80% of the albums you own were designed by Storm Thorgerson (if you have good taste in music of course). This guy is truly a genius. I have linked the Kickstarter project so that you can donate to make sure this film gets completed. Love it! "Storm Thorgerson designed 80% of your record collection and has been called the sixth member of Pink Floyd. This film about his life is guided by the lovely notion that beauty and poetic discovery can send us back in time. Soundtracks, signed posters, and original artwork await you."

My Time: Minus the Bear
Posted 05/18/10
I realize that I have already posted a music video for the single off of the new OMNI album. This new one, however, seems to be more of the official type. As you can probably tell, I can't really get enough of their music. Great stuff. For those of you who would like to get the new album, you can find a link to it here. If you want to get even more of their music, I highly recommend their Planet of Ice album which you can link to and listen to here.

Le Tigre - Deceptacon

Every once in awhile, I come across both musical and visual bliss in the form of a music video. This is a perfect example of one of those times. Thanks to Buzz for the link.

Mike Patton's Mondo Cane
Posted 05/06/10
I'm really not sure what to make of this. Mike Patton, most notably of Faith No More fame has a new project. He is taking Italian classics and singing them behind a full orchestra. If that isn't your "WTF" moment of the week, I don't know what will be. Here is a description that I found on the linked page: Mike Patton of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and Fantomas fame is back with his latest musical endeavor, Mondo Cane. Not one to rest on his laurels Patton has dived right into the Italian songbook of pop songs from the 60’s and 70’s. Backed by the grandiose sounds of a full 40-piece orchestra and singing completely in Italian, Patton makes the music of Ennio Morricone, Gino Paoli, Johnny Mathis and more entirely his own. The title of the album is in reference to the notorious 1962 Italian shocumentary Mondo Cane and the translation is “the world is a dog”, appropriately fitting for a release bearing the Patton name.

Minus the Bear - My Time
Posted 03/09/10
Minus the Bear has a new album coming out May 4th and I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on it. Check out this little music video and get to lovin' it. Also notable is that they are touring around soon. Wish they were coming to Denver. Jerks.

Neutra Face: A Musical Typeface
Posted 02/12/10
Wow, this was almost TOO much but I had to post it because I really have to support my designer friends out there. One of those "hard to watch all the way through" videos. Yikes. * Thanks to Stacia for finding this for me.

Beatles Multitrack Masters
Posted 11/19/09
"While digging through Usenet, I stumbled on these three unidentified tracks that pick apart three of the Beatles' original multitrack masters, isolating and highlighting pieces from 'She's Leaving Home,' 'A Day in the Life,' and 'Come Together.' It's an astounding, and very listenable, glimpse into their recording process." She's Leaving Home A Day In the Life Come Together Amazingly cool, definitely worth a listen for any Beatle or music fan out there! * Thanks to codechemist for pointing this gem-of-a-link out.

You can now register for an account so you can comment on news, galleries, features and music items.Additionally you can get your very own avatar. Ain't that cool? I sure think so. Michael Jackson Dies
Posted 06/25/09
WHAT? What a weird story! Sure, he's creepy and eccentric but I never thought of him as "at risk". I am shocked and saddenned by the news of his passing. MJ, we will totally miss you. Your music has touched so many people and you were a true music genius of our time.I'm sure my copy of Off the Wall will be getting quite a few extra plays in the upcoming weeks and months.

A Robot Experiment

What a great project! Introducing the tweenbot, a cardboard-bodied, cheerful little bugger, is equipped with a flag stating its intended destination. Since it can only move forward, it depends on the kindness of strangers to guide it and remove obstacles. The accompanying music is just perfect too.

Well, this isn't exactly new news but I had to make a post about it anyways. At a recent media event, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs announced major upgrades to the popular iMac and large iPods. Last but not least, iTunes is mucho better now. The iMac is beefier (performance-wise), skinnier, has a remote for couch browsing. The iPod now supports video, AWESOME! Not only are we talking about music videos, Apple announced a partnership with ABC so that you can now download certain TV show episodes. More toys, oh joy!

What a wonderful day in music. Even better, next week has some great releases too!

Awesome! Where's mine?

In a Metal Mood?

Pat Boone, you have crafted one of the scariest pieces of "metal" I have ever come across. When I have kids, I'll feel pretty comfortable with them listening to Iron Maiden but the Pat Boone definitely has to be locked away. FRIGHTENING!

It was painful and I only continued to listen because I thought it was a cruel joke. Whoever is responsible (including CL herself) for getting this sh&* out there to the public should be banned from the music industy forever and ever.

How can I get MSN Music downloads to play on my iPod?Although Apple computers and Apple iPods do not support the PC standard WindowsMedia format for music, it is still possible to transfer MSN Music downloads to an iPod, but it will require some extra effort. To transfer MSN-downloaded music to an iPod, you need to first create a CD with the music, and then you need to import that CD into iTunes. This process will convert the music into a format that can play on the iPod. We're sorry that this isn't easier - unfortunately Apple refuses to allow other companies to integrate with the iPod's proprietary music format. If you are an iPod owner already and unhappy about this policy, you are welcome to send feedback to Apple requesting that they change their interoperability policy.

Nate Wood, a great guy who I went to high school with, has been making quite a name for himself in the music world. He toured around the world as the drummer for the pop band The Calling, and more recently released his own album. He played ALL the instruments on the cd (drums, guitar, bass, piano) AND sang on it, AND engineered it, AND wrote all the songs himself. And what's more, it's REALLY freakin good! Got to thinking of some of the bands that have really influenced me in the last 10 years or so and one that really pops to the top of the list is Helmet. The rocking good band was (they broke up in early 1998) was lead by Paige Hamilton (a musical genius) who is now in a band called Gandhi.- Just Like Me (mp3)- Money Shot (mp3)- Everybody Loves You (mp3)The other heavy hitter in Helmet was John Stanier, who is now in a band called Tomahawk.- Rape This Day (mp3)- God Hates a Coward (mp3)Check out the rest of the listings for Tomahawk, rediculous amounts of talent. Remember Mike Patton from Faith No More? Of course you do. In any case, you may want to continue to follow these guys, their amazing talent will continue to appease the masses.

New Living Colour Album

So Subotai made the grave mistake of leaving me in charge of populating this site with information while he's off getting blitzed in the land of kilts and quickenings. While poking around the iTunes Music store last night I discovered some tracks by Living Colour that I didn't have (from Pride as well as unreleased ones on Vivid). This got me excited. When I get excited I go and research on the internet. And lo and behold I found out on www.livingcolournet.com that they are working on a new album! Look for it in September. Linked below is a windows media player (blech!) stream of an entire concert they did in 2001! Rockin!
