Web Stencil Kit
Posted 08/18/10
Brainstorm website and app ideas with ease using our precision cut Website Stencil Kit. Wireframe quickly and efficiently with the most commonly used iconography and interaction techniques. The kit includes: Stainless steel stencil with all your favorite user interface iconography Zebra mechanical pencil 2 UI Stencils Stickers Downloadable .PDF letter or A4 paper template Pretty slick, I'd say. Not sure how often I would actually use the stencil set in real design work but it is sure a "cool-to-have" item that *might* up my designer street cred (which could certainly use a boost).

Apple iTunes in the Cloud?
Posted 07/02/10
Could iTunes be getting cloud capability that everyone has been asking about for years now? Man, wouldn't that be sweet. I could, in theory, stream all of my music from anywhere. I could even put my Lala-esque playlists back up on this site in the features section. Dope! Make it so Apple! Additionally, at least in rumor-ville, there is talk of wireless syncing. 'Bout Time!

Apple Worth More Than Microsoft
Posted 05/26/10
"It's Official: Apple Is Now Worth More Than Microsoft* (sortof) Apple's stock market capitalization (AAPL) has not yet quite surpassed Microsoft's (MSFT), but the value of its actual business is now higher. Specifically, Apple's business is now worth $200 billion, while Microsoft's is only worth $197 billion--at least by one simple calculation of enterprise value."

My Time: Minus the Bear
Posted 05/18/10
I realize that I have already posted a music video for the single off of the new OMNI album. This new one, however, seems to be more of the official type. As you can probably tell, I can't really get enough of their music. Great stuff. For those of you who would like to get the new album, you can find a link to it here. If you want to get even more of their music, I highly recommend their Planet of Ice album which you can link to and listen to here.

The new system adds new colors, new tools and a new arrangement to make viewing colors in a range easier. The Pantone matching system is a valuable tool in any designers arsenal, and with these changes Pantone is hoping to remain on the cutting edge of color selection. The video features Pantone’s iPhone and iPad app, myPANTONE. One new useful addition is the inclusion of a light checking tool that ensures correct lighting for selecting colors as accurately as possibly. Check out the new Plus series at Pantone’s website.

Thoughts On Flash
Posted 05/02/10
A great little article by Apple's Steve Jobs about the Flash fight of late. He goes through why he thinks that Flash is less-than-ideal for macs and the future of computing. Very interesting read... especially for Mac nerds and anyone w/ a mobile web browsing device.

Retro Sci-Fi Game Poster Tutorial
Posted 04/19/10
Image courtesy of SpoonGraphics I found a great Photoshop tutorial on how to create a retro sci-fi computer game poster while browsing the PSDTuts twitter feed. Not only is this a great tutorial, the subject matter also happens to be right up my alley. If you are into gaming (at least retro-style) and you are a Photoshop nucklehead you might get a kick out of this highly-informative tutorial. Dig it!  Image courtesy of SpoonGraphics

iCade & iPad - It Just Got [Fake]
Posted 04/01/10
Ok, so I think that the iPad has a lot of possibilities but still seems kinda silly as a purchase for me. I've never thought that I even wanted one. Sure, if someone gave me one, I'd be more than happy to receive it and fully embrace it. To shell out several hundreds of dollars for it when I have laptops all over the place seems silly to me though... until I saw this post. HOLY CRAP! I want one so bad I can taste it. Paired with an iCade where I could play classic old arcade games? YES! Oh boy, oh boy! iPad & iCade FTW! P.S. Did anyone watch Modern Family last night where Phil was begging for an iPad for his birthday? If not, find it Apple fans. I was dying of laughter.

20 Years of Photoshop
Posted 02/02/10
This week marks the 20th anniversary of the Adobe product that literally changed my life. I think that I first started tinkering around with Photoshop when it was in it's 3rd iteration which was around 1995. From that moment, I loved how artistic I could be without using traditional methods. I have many fond memories playing around with brushes, colors and it's newest feature, LAYERS with Dan on my Apple 6300! Through many iterations of the program (I am currently rocking CS4), I have remained thankful for the awesome tool that has been enriching my work and creativity. I could go on and on about Photoshop but I won't. That last thing people want is for someone to get mushy about a piece of software, right? Instead, I will point you off to a great article about the history of Photoshop. For super PS nerds, I have included a video with one of the creators who gives a nice interview on it's history. Enjoy!

Gaming in the Classroom
Posted 12/03/09
"Gaming in the classroom shouldn't be a foreign concept to anyone born within the past 30 years -- and no, I'm not talking about covertly playing a few rounds of Tetris while your teacher drones on about the less interesting parts of the Roman Empire. At some point in history, someone decided that the very thing taking over children's lives could be re-engineered for educational purposes, and for kids of my generation -- the so-called Nintendo Generation -- this meant being whisked away to the computer lab once a week to play games designed by people more interested in explicit education than anything remotely close to entertainment. So, after dusting off the already-ancient Apple IIs, we would munch numbers, letters, and occasionally develop dysentery on the picturesque Oregon Trail..."Reading an article like this just makes me want to go back to school. Doesn't hurt that the lead image is so cool too, right?

Apple Giant
Posted 11/12/09
Apple has a whole lot of money around these days. Check out the graph to see how far the computer company has come in the last few year. Truly remarkable. Amazingly, I think they deserve every penny they pull in. Still, quite possibly, my favorite company of all time. Let's just hope they don't get too big and lose their magic (I know, everybody says this, but I think it is a valid concern). Cheers!Mmmmm... maybe in celebration I'll bake an apple pie today.

HTML Assault on Adobe Flash
Posted 10/08/09
"As Adobe works to port its full Flash Player to mobile platforms and highlights its upcoming support in CS5 for building iPhone apps using Flash tools, an open source group is leading a drive to kill Flash on the desktop using a WebKit plugin named ClickToFlash." Has a lot of potential for us web guys.

85 Free Silhouette Sets

Apple Says "What Recession?"
Posted 07/21/09
"Love 'em or hate 'em, Apple knows how to sell, and sell big. As we tune into the company's fiscal 2009 third quarter conference call this afternoon, we're told that it has just recorded its 'best non-holiday quarter [in terms of] revenue and earnings' in company history. This, mind you, was recorded during what most say is the worst recession since the Great Depression. All told, Apple netted a quarterly profit of $1.23 billion, and international sales accounted for a staggering 44 percent of the quarter's revenue." Pidow!

Best of Craigslist
Posted 07/14/09
Check out this amazing advertisement for a used Nissan Xterra. It is a fantastic read. So good, in fact, that I am almost positive that my buddy Andy wrote it. Here's a taste: "This car was engineered by 3rd degree ninja super-warriors in the highest mountains of Japan to serve the needs of the man that cheats death on a daily basis. They didn't even consider superfluous nancy boy amenities like navigation systems (real men don't get lost), heated leather seats (a real man doesn't let anything warm his butt), or On Star (real men don't even know what the hell On Star is)." Thanks to applenerd for finding this gem.

iPhoto
Posted 11/07/07
Ok, so you all know that it isn't often that I complain about Apple so this will be a very, very rare rant. iPhoto, one of the iLife suite applications has become one of my most hated programs. It is a great program in spirit but the performance is crappy at best. I have around 3,000 photos in my library, which isn't that big at all and I have a super powerful Intel Mac. Come On!! It takes forever to scroll, resize or do anything in that program and if it is open, the rest of my apps perform crappy too.Bottom line, I don't know what you have to do Apple but get on it. I'm too used to you guys serving gold to be satisfied with the current state of your photo management software.

802.11n Enabler
Posted 01/30/07
Along with today's iPod Shuffle line additions, Apple has released the promised 802.11n Enabler for compatible Macs.I'm a little confused by this. Does this mean that my existing Airport Base Station is capable of transmitting this new advanced wireless capability? If so, that is fantastic. Oh, and why does it cost $1.99? What is that all about?

iPhone

.mac to Update
Posted 09/29/06
"Earlier this week Apple announced that a new version of webmail for Mac users is “coming soon.” There was a bit of chatter about this around the blogosphere, with most people concluding that this fresh coat of paint on the inferior .mac product is a bit of a yawn."Well, I think it is neat... what do you think?

I was on Apple's store website today and thought I would have some fun by creating the uber-mac. This mac was comprised of the new Quad-core processor, 16GB of ram, a TB of hard drive space... basically the best they offer. The price tag? Just a shade over 23 K... Wowza'!

Time Again

Apple is again Time's cover story. Thankfully this time it's not about their "eminent" demise, but about how stinking good a company they are.

New Products!
Posted 10/14/05
Well, this isn't exactly new news but I had to make a post about it anyways. At a recent media event, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs announced major upgrades to the popular iMac and large iPods. Last but not least, iTunes is mucho better now. The iMac is beefier (performance-wise), skinnier, has a remote for couch browsing. The iPod now supports video, AWESOME! Not only are we talking about music videos, Apple announced a partnership with ABC so that you can now download certain TV show episodes. More toys, oh joy!

... Follow Up
Posted 10/05/05
Ok, so this is day 2 in my hell. I can now start up my laptop. All seems well for about 10 minutes before things start to slow down and seize up. The hard drive at this point makes a clicking sound and you can't do squat. So, I can then shut it down, let it cool off and start over. This is working nicely for backing up all of my software, I have almost eveything off now. Now I have to take my machine back to Apple and let them fix it. 10 DAYS! AHHH! Oh well, I'm just glad I got everything off. Lessons learned are... 1. Backup your data daily and 2. Get Applecare on any machine you buy, especially a laptop.

How can I get MSN Music downloads to play on my iPod?Although Apple computers and Apple iPods do not support the PC standard WindowsMedia format for music, it is still possible to transfer MSN Music downloads to an iPod, but it will require some extra effort. To transfer MSN-downloaded music to an iPod, you need to first create a CD with the music, and then you need to import that CD into iTunes. This process will convert the music into a format that can play on the iPod.We're sorry that this isn't easier - unfortunately Apple refuses to allow other companies to integrate with the iPod's proprietary music format. If you are an iPod owner already and unhappy about this policy, you are welcome to send feedback to Apple requesting that they change their interoperability policy.
